Thread: Engine rattle...

    Default Engine rattle...

Lately at high RPM's I have been hearing a slight rattle which sounds to me like valves rattling, anyone here experience this in their 99?
I currently have about 54K on the engine and am using Mobil 1 10w 30.
    All comments and suggestions appreciated.

I have the CAT/ heat shield 'metal buzz' that occurs in the upper RPM range of 4th gear only. Is this similar?

My shifter knob makes a little buzz from 4000 to 5500 rpm...

I was relieved when I realized it wasn't coming from under the hood!

Might be, I would be pleasantly suprised if that is just it.
    Sure sounds internal though.
I will have Gary take a listen next month, unless i see one of you guys this Sunday at the P102 school.

Umm kind of shounds like pre-ignition to me. Try seafoaming it along with some fuel system cleaner and see if it goes away.

Now that you bring that up, i just Seafoam'd the car about a month ago and did the Seafoam oil and gas treatment a couple of months ago...but I always fuel the car with super since it's a little cry baby on anything but super unleaded.
I have ofetn wondered why other people who own the 99's can run regular and my car knocks like crazy on it.
Could the timing get off on a VT car? and if so how would i go about fixing it?
    any suggestions are welcome....and thanks

Hmm... my bad rod bearings sounded like a "rattling" noise above 3000rpm...

Could be anything, though. We'll look at it this weekend at AX102.
