    Found this add on another site nad thought hmmmm, I have never heard of this before.
    Silver 1990 Mazda Miata SPORTY ragtop convertable, running, a/c needs new clutch to blow cold air - but just put the top down and let the wind blow through your hair.

    A/C Compressors have a clutch that keeps your acc belt from running the compressor when you have the A/C off. Push the A/C button on the dash and the clutch engages. Mazda may not sell it as a separate part from the compressor.

    I'd bet it needs more than just a clutch!

    Titus is correct the clutch is a replaceable item, in some cases you'll need special tools to change out the clutch.

    I worked at an Automotive A/C parts distributor in my youth.

    I bet many of those old tin-type photos haven't survived through the years.
