IIRC... look in the sight glass (little block of metal with a glass window on top) and see if it looks milky when the compressor kicks in... if so, yer low on freon...
Or you could just hook a gauge to it & see.
What is your diagnosis? My 97 Millenia S is making gurgling noise when the compressor kicks in. It still runs cold, although not as cold as a new car. Could it be?:
1. Low on refrigerant
2. Compressor is going to RIP
3. None of the above
You assistance is greatly apprecipated in advance!

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
I am a true TCB and don't have a gauge. I will try the sight glass.

Most 134 systems don't have a sight glass, just go to Autozone and get a cheap gauge.
The A/C compressor will not be silent when it runs, it is a compressor after all.
When did you get a 97 Millenia S??Originally Posted by onething
Is there one on the NB Miata?? I don't recall seeing one on any of my NB's but I did have one on the NA.
Never said I had a 97 Millenia S. I said mine (01 Miata LS) has a sight glass. You remember the car, Sparky; silver with tan interior and a bad radiator.Originally Posted by POS Racing
So where is the site glass on your '01, I just looked at the '02 and it doesn't appear to have one, the '99 is resting quietly under it's cover and I don't want to bother it.Originally Posted by onething
Wacky my '02 has a slightly different part!
1. Perhaps Mazda built a "retro A/C" just for our old timer, onething. On my 99, it only has a sensor directly on the high pressure line. It does not even has the bracket that POS has. May be it is one of the weight reduction thing for the 99.
2. On my 97 Millie, it has the same setup as my 99 NB. It has a simple sensor in-line on the high pressure line.
3. The gurgling noise only comes on at idle. It is definitely not there when at speend and before last month.
4. Anyone every used one of these DIY refrigerant refill can I saw one that comes as a kit with a cheapo guage.

I think it would be easier and cheaper to check the temp. of the air your AC is blowing. Normal would be about 45 degrees. Vato Zone has a thermometer for about 7 bucks.
