well that's certainly a new twist....
of course.. if the car didn't pass US emission & safety before, wonder how it'll do now?
Isn't there a giant empty ex-GM manufacturing facility already in OKC![]()
This is sort of like waking up to learn that Daimler was "merging" with Chrysler, only much, much weirder.
Apparently a Chinese company is bringing MG back to the United States. They're going to start building the MGF in Oklahoma, with the company HQ in Oklahoma City. I had to double check that it's not April 1 when I heard this.
All I can say is: good luck with that!

I am very interested to see where they price the cars. MG would imply pricing along the lines of European $$$ but "Chinese company" says less than Korean $$$. Perhaps they expect the combination to allow them to justify Japaneses level $$$?
I think the MGF is a nice looking car. If they priced it below the MX-5/Solstice, I could see them stealing some sales. The last hot version had 160hp, and did 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. It must have been light.Originally Posted by Titus

Is the MG Coupe and Convertible all they are going to offer? It is a very niche vehicle, that has some real competition from some big dollar players.
So let me see if I got this all figured out, ya got a British name that doesn't exactly exemplify quality and reliability, run by the Chinese who have not played this game yet on a global field, manufactured in Ardmore, Oklahoma the "New Maranello" of the Midwest!
Is the coupe a 2 seater or does it have a micro-backseat? It sounds like this could beat Mazda to the punch, being first to market with a sub-20k RWD coupe.
On a side note... cheap RWD coupe = "Fast and Furious IV, MG-Drift".![]()
MG ZT saloon restart is well underway in Longbridge (UK). Also... only the coupe will be made in OK... the convertible will be made in the UK.Originally Posted by POS Racing

There is no mention in today's New York times article that Nanjing Automobile is building any MG cars yet??Originally Posted by Titus

http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/busin...s-nanjing.htmlEarlier this year, it took a 33-year lease on the former MG Rover plant at Longbridge in central England and said it still hoped to revive production at the site.
A 160hp, mid-engined, RWD coupe for, say, $18,995 would be pretty appealing to a certain segment of the market.

Wonder what the size of that segment is??Originally Posted by srivendel

Sorry... I grabbed that off of a post in another forum, but I can't seem to find anything to back it up. I did find this article that says 3 different saloon models will be built in China. Also lists MGTF as being priced 20-25k.Originally Posted by POS Racing

and sold thru *what* dealer network exactly???

E-Bay or the Home Shopping Network would be my first two guesses.Originally Posted by rx7gslse

I just heard a bit about this on NPR, it's gonna get ugly.
They're planning on putting together a factory, a dealer network, and supply parts in 2 years.
Plus they're going to build a type of car that sells like crazy for the first prodution year, and then sales slump till a new model is introduced.
And for some reason, having lived near that area, I don't think the locals are going to be particularly kind to the Chinese, some of the old boys are prob getting their KKK sheets cleaned as we speak.
To do list: carpet X1, seatcovers X1
