    Default Any idea on HP/TQ?

    I am doing some thinking about modifying my SM into a true ITA car which allows a little more fiddle factor (legally) and allows a lot more engine work. I don't know all the exact rules but I am pretty sure of the following;
    allows
    40 overbore
    balance & blueprinting engine
    use header
    (not sure of intake)
    Suspension can really be fiddled with.

    My question is what numbers HP/TQ do you think can be achieved with a nb 1.8?

    Talk to Ony. I know his is a 1.6, but the relationship should be pretty close.

    Merv, I talked with Andy Bettencourt up in Mass. He has been doing well with his 94. He gave me some pretty good ideas. Suspension wise I can get pretty good with out a ton of costs(Revalve & shorten the shocks, stronger springs, bigger front sway bar with some nice adjustments.)

    The power end of it seems to be as cheap or cheaper then say an SM Pro Motor ($6.5K-$7.5K) and I think I can get the work done locally. He suggested just cleaning up the stock header and maybe coating it. (What do you think in this area?) Also, what about an open air intake (much benefit in your opinion?)

    Evidently some IT guys on the East Coast are developing a standalone ECU that will plug into the stock harness and also fit in the stock ECU box.

    Not much has ever been done in this area for the NA miata since cost doesn't equal gain for a steet car, but with the cars in ITA there are people working on that end.

    Anything I would say would just be suposition, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to clean up that exhaust manifold and ceramic coat it. However, why not put a REAL header on it...you can in IT. CAI is another good thing.....more cool air, more power.

    Since I'm a "legal" racer, I wouldn't know about all that other stuff...........

    Mac, it's called a LINK, (you probably already new that) I've got one, and would be glad to show you how it works and all. It's the least I could do, as your tranny has held up well.

    I think I saw a thread on the ECU issue on the the pointy board... There was a rule they were talking about that requires keeping the AFM which won't work with the LINK.

    Yeah, I don't think the Link would work. Maybe "standalone" wasn't the right term. The ECU is open but it has to fit into the stock ECU case and also hook up to the stock harness.
    I need to reread the IT rules, but I don't think CAI is allowed. I am pretty sure an open air setup is allowed hear the stock location.

    The reason for the idea to revalve and shorten the shocks is you could use the SM shocks already in the car to start with and then you would just need 99 hats. I was told a good spring pkg. would be 850 front & 400 rear.

    Merv, one of the reasons I think I will like ITA is that it will be easier to compete with a legal car. When I turn a really good lap with a great run out of T7 at RAtlanta and an SM or two just pull away down the back straight it makes you wonder. Don't get me wrong, I think SM is the greatest thing in Club Racing, but I am ready to try something a little different, but still race a miata. I am sure I will still rent/share a SM on occasion.
