    With over 6 million words in the English language, most having more than one meaning, it is unlikely that anyone will never make a faux pas. A good read, IMHO, is The Mother Tongue, English & How It Got That Way by Bill Bryson, published by Avon Books.

    I still have my copy of Walsh's Plain English Handbook from my eighth grade English class. I don't think schools have used it in awhile.
