Only glaring problem I see is they're offering a standard cab, Ford doesn't even sell a standard cab 1/2 ton any longer.

They should have offered an extended cab as the base model, especially considering it's aimed at the North American market.

I wonder if the could resurect the tranny they used in the Supra... That seems to be able to handle some power.

The biggest problem with both Ford and GM is that both of them have tooooo many accountants and lawyers! You can't build car/truck people want to buy by pinching pennies and worry getting sued! This is the exact reason why we can enjoy our Miata! It may not be a bad thing the we end up with a ForYota or GYota! Or have Mazda runing Ford and call it MazaFord!

Toyota didn’t reveal how powerful the motor is, but the new Tundra will be capable of towing an amazing 10,000 lbs.

Whoopee. So can a Titan (almost - 9500lbs). An F350 Super Duty can tow up to 19,200 lbs.

Now, if Toyota adds a big diesel to the lineup, all bets are off. But until then, it's just a light duty truck.

And that's only because if it "could" tow 19,300 it would be over 26,000 GCVW and would kick itself out of its own market as you'd need a CDL to tow your race car, horse, etc.

Toyota executives have all but confirmed a heavy-duty diesel engine for the next generation of the Tundra pickup. Toyota does not build a truck-sized diesel engine, but it could adapt an engine produced by its truck-making affiliate, Hino Trucks.

You missed the biggie on the Ford site... the 4.30 Powersmoke automatic gets a GCWR of 26,000 on the dot with the 19,200 trailer cap for the regular cab 4x2.

I don't think the Japanese makers are willing to sacrifice the NVH to do a thing like that... But... ya never know. OTOH... The towing capacity doesn't have a whole lot to do with the ability to motivate it. It has an awful lot to do with the ability to slow it down and turn it.

Toyota does make a 4 cylinder diesel it uses in their humvee equivalent. 1100cc per cylinder at that.

I had a 1982 Chevy Luv diesel with a 6 foot bed and a 1982 Isuzu Pup diesel with a 7.5 foot bed back in 1995. They were rated at 1250 lbs bed load and 2000 lbs towing capacity. I sold the 1982 Isuzu after I moved from Georgia for what I paid for it a year and a half earlier. The Luv had 285,000 and still going when I sold it in 1999. Should have kept it, even with all the beauty marks. Both of them pulled well over 2000 lbs and didn't complain. Both got 38 MPG with a 5 speed transmission 2.2liter 4 cylinder normally asperated engine. Wished I could have found a turbodiesel spacecab model from 1986.
