    Default First break down

I was headed to Sherman last night when a heater hose ruptured. Lucky for me onething was in Sherman and he came to my rescue. We got the car to a safe place for the night. Today, I took my Honda van and a trailer to Sherman and hauled the Miata home.

The new hoses will be here Thursday. We'll see if I can change both hoses as fast as miatamoto, half hour. My bet will be.....no.

    Any suggestions or cautions?

Be careful pulling the old hoses off. The fittings in the firewall are very soft and easy to bend. Some people have luck using a razor blade to cut the old hose off. Be careful to not score the soft fitting though. Both of those things can make it very hard to get a good seal. The hoses also only go on one way so pay attention to which one is which.

How old do you think the hoses were? The origional ones from the factory?

Hoses usually go after about 7 years...

They could go at anytime! Actually isn't the old rule new hoses every 5 years??

May order a set of heater hoses for my '99, no one wants to be a Titus!

Don't screw around with hoses, if you think they could be bad replace them, a hose failure could kill/cook you engine!!!

Which would be almost as bad as a Panda Attack!

Ohh... my 13 years was definitely an aberation.... The car is always garaged and spent it's first 11 years in the mild California climate. It was only after moving to the harsh Texas weather that they quickly failed. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking about adding them to my annual maintenance.

    (better?)

I had a heater hose that I didn't even know the car had on my 1987 Dodge Raider blow at 8 years old. By the time I caught it, the head had overheated and cracked. $360 for a head and a week later(due to shipping), I was back up and running.

I am gonna guess that a miata head replacement is going to be slightly more than that. Especially for a 99-00 since their heads seem to be the ones that everyone wants.

It's a tough spot threatening to moderate me when your avatar has testicles for a chin... and your avatar's son is a dead ringer for blackzx3...
