This Link is a great reference for buying a Miata!
Welcome & let us know how we can help!
Well I'm not in the club yet but I'm trying. So I guess I'll introduce myself. I'm Eric, an architect in Dallas and I've decided that my next car will be an NA Miata. I guess the 99s and up are little too refined for my taste. Well that and I can't afford a new MSM.
Anyway I would appreciate any advice on purchasing one of the fine machines. Most importantly, who around town is known for providing a quality pre-purchase inspection on old Miatas?
I appreciate the help.

Welcome to the group, BELL. Seems there are few architect types around here.
Can't help you much with the NA but I'm sure POS or SAMMM will chime in on that.
(I see they already have... :) )
I think any of us would be willing to help ya out! Just let us know when and where!
Welcome Eric! As you probably already figured out, POS, Treibenschnell and I are in the minority on the forum, as we own vintage (1.6) Miata's. :P They are great cars and will go forever with a little preventive maintenance and they can be had for cheap.
The NB's are more refined, but it's all about preference (and $$$)! There's a quote that states - The NB is a better car, but the NA is a better Miata!
Read then read some more. Check out the FAQ on miata.net and then read some more. Feel free to ask questions before you take the plunge!
Darn... sammmmmm beat me to the quote.Originally Posted by sammm

What a car payment? :POriginally Posted by altiain
That seem to be the biggest difference betwen my NA with no monthly payment and my NB with a mothly payment.
You're not from around here, are you?Originally Posted by altiain

Hey Bell do you have any specific requirements for your possible NA Miata?
You left out two of your most recent members in the list of early Miatae.
I think Austin and Outrace are two....
Hello, my name is OUTRACE and I'm a motorcyclist. It has been zero days since my last ride.
We still have the 92 B&T as well as the new 03 Splash Green Mica...
I swear the 92 has more get up & go according to the butt dyno, but that's probably because of the nice looking but VERY heavy tires/rims on the 03...
Just do your usual maintenance and the cars keep ticking like clockwork.

Lightness? What's that? I drive a PRHT!
Wow, things get quite tangential in a hurry around here. Excellent.

Right now I've got two solid prospectes but am still looking.
A 96 black on black cloth with an immaculate, ding free exteriror. It claims to have 38,000 miles on it, but the wear on the pedals and the fact that the clutch has been replaced makes me a bit apprehensive.
The other is a 97 M edition, 65,655 miles. Nice condition with it's share of dings and nicks. The headrest speakers are a nice bonus. My wife tends to like this one a bit more because it's cuter (Rrrgghh!) and it has more ammenaties.
Both of them have new tops with glass back windows. I see that as a real asset.
It's been suggested to me that the guy who owns this place http://www.miatatechnologies.com/ would be a good sorce fort that inspection. Anyone know anything about this guy?
The '97M is one of my favorites and would make an excellant autocross car! Where is it again? :POriginally Posted by Bell
I've heard some good and more bad about miatatechnologies.com. I don't have any personal experience, but I'm sure those who do will chime in. You might even find a forum member in your neck of the woods willing to help you do an initial inspection or recommend someone to inspect it for you.
Some of us have had problems arising from work done there (small fire) or cars purchased there (steering column assembled with crazy glue). We'd love to steer you in another direction, but he can probably do as thorough a pre-purchase inspection as anyone else.
As mentioned before, however, many of our members would be more than happy to help you with your inspection (heck, I hear we even have loaner compression testers these days...) for the price of a pint of beer... We seem to have an odd interest in getting more people into Miatas.
Picky, picky, picky. It was a small fire.Originally Posted by tailchaser
