Well if you don't post what your doing on the Internet probably not......

Before you pull the head you may want to do a compression check and get yourself a baseline.

There is a Flee-bay listing that has a local company selling rebuilt ones for a lot less.

That is the same guys I linked to in my second link... It is only cheaper than FM by $48. If you want to do anything extra, they are out of the question.

I did expect the head to be cheaper than that. I was kinda' shocked that a valve job ran that much as it has been 10 years or so since I last had one done. It was $125 at that time on a 4 cylinder with 2 valves per cylinder and a three angle grind.

That shop is no longer around, though.

    Here are the relevant sections:

    13.10 ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN
    A. The engine air filter element may be removed or replaced. A
replacement element which is taller than standard may not be
used to hold the air cleaner cover open. No other components
of the air induction system may be removed, replaced or modified.
    B. Engines may be rebored to the manufacturer’s first standard
overbore, not to exceed 0.020". Sleeving is allowed to repair to
the standard bore. Only OE-type standard or first overbore
pistons of the same configuration and of the same or greater
weights are permitted. No interchange between cast and forged
    pistons is allowed.
    C. Rotating and reciprocating parts may not be balanced.
    D. Port matching is not allowed.

    <SNIP>

    N. Valve seats and guides in older engines originally designed for
leaded fuel may be only substituted with alternate components if
the dimensions are the same as those of the standard components.
The typical rule of thumb is, "If it doesn't say you can, you can't"

BTW, I'm of the opinion that running in a class - even locally - with illegal performance mods without the expressed consent of your co-competitors is bad form. Solo is a self-policing sport. Instead of asking "is anyone actually going to pull my head at a local event to check?", perhaps you should be asking the people you'd be running against if they mind.

Thanks, Iain, I found the same thing, too, after posting my question.

I think that I was not very clear with my comments. I wholly agree with you about not using illegal mods, as a win would never be a personal win to me knowing that I did so illegally. My point was only that I doubt anyone would be pulling heads at a local event for the stock class in order to check for such mods.

    You gotta start winning first.

Sorry, I had to. You just lobbed it up in front of me.
