Yeah, I wouldn't put even bother posting the torque numbers. According to the printout I got, my car made more torque on the dyno that it is rated from the factory at the flywheel.

+1 ... those torque numbers were all over the place! 50 ft. lb. difference between mine and POS's car. 30-40 between miatamoto and myself. Don't have much faith in the HP numbers as far as that goes either!

99.0!!! Double digit numbers for me!

Yeah, the torque numbers were pretty bogus.

    Cue Sammmy!

The POSIII came in at a whooping 101.2 hp.

The folks at Import Car Center put together a nice day!

I did a search on google for "Dyno Dynamics vs. Dynojet" and found some people that said that the dyno dynamics reads about 17% less than a Dynojet. Also the Dyno dynamics reads about 33% lower than the flywheel HP rating.

That puts my 99 HP at around 116whp on a dyno jet and around 132 flywheel HP. All of that sounds pretty realistic considering my mods.

Of course the 17% and 33% numbers are anecdotal internet data. Take it with a grain of salt.

Yikes, if the torque was all over the place that sounds bad. I dont know about Dyno dynamics, but does the dynojet just measure the torque and then compute the horse power off of that?

I think so. A Dynojet is an inertial dyno - there is some fixed mass in the rollers (usually water), and the torque is computed based on how long it takes your car to accelerate that mass. Since the mass is fixed, the calculation is pretty easy.

Dyno Dynamics is an eddy current dyno, which is one where the resistance of the rollers can be varied using an electrical current. This can be useful for tuning, because you can hold a car at a certain RPM and vary the load. However, I still don't understand how torque and horsepower are calculated on a dyno where the resistance varies, and I don't understand at all why the peak torque values on everyone's pulls were worthless.

Thanks for a great event I think we had all had a great time. It was a good chance for all the autocrossers to hang out during our off-season. I would look into the inconsistent torque numbers though. That's definitely something that keep me from coming back to the dyno.

BTW, big thanks for actually giving out the "lowest HP" prize! I was just joking about that.

Again thanks to everyone that attended. We are planning another dyno day for Feb. 10th. Aside from the torque # thing is there any changes that you would like to see made or anything done differently?
