hey I was talking to my buddy thats a mechanic and he said that flushing your engine with any sort of kerosine or ATF is a really bad idea. The sludge thats built up in your engine is going to get knocked loose, ending up in your oil pan...well at that point there is a good chance of it clogging up your oil pump. Makes perfect sense to me...besides replacing the oil pump is a PITA. You should try out that Lucas oil stabilizer. But yea thats my 2 cents...for what its worth, your car may be just fine, who knows.

well home depot doesn't sell kerosene anymore, so i went to academy's. $7 per gallon, i ran the engine with the ATF, flushed it out with kerosene and waited about 2hrs for all of that to drip out. Finally i filled it up with Mobil 1 and presto, the car runs even better than when i got it. Also replaced the spark plugs and wires to finish off the job...

Gary, I may need some advice from you on a clutch upgrade...

black devil, your theory makes sense, but then again you should have seen the kerosene coming out of my engine, its was clean and clear as water, no signs of any sludge. I will look out for that though...

I'm not saying that the kerosene method does/does not work, but perhaps making one change at a time would better help you pinpoint what it is that actually improved the car... 'cause I know plugs and wires always made my car run better on their own.

Can bad plugs or wires cause lifter noise???

no i did make one change at a time, i flushed it tuesday, change the spark plugs early wednesday and after driving it for a while i decided to get the plug wires to finish it of. The three changes were very effective, the flush got rid of the ticking, plugs and wires just got rid of that little hesitation my engine was doing lately...

my plugs were causing some kind of noise similar to the lifters, it was more like a puffing sound which came out of #3 plug. I torqued the spark plug and replaced the wire and it was gone.
