We finally have a location and a time!
We'll be installing my new shocks/springs/bumpstops and hopefully my rollbar if time permits.
Date: This Sunday, January 28th.
Time: 11:00AM. That gives you old farts time to wake up if you want to show up
Location: jrj512's house. PM him for directions!
Anybody that wants to show up to help or harass is welcome!
If enough help shows up I may bring a couple of other quick-n-easy parts to drop in. Thanks to anybody who arrives!
Again, PM jrj512 for directions!
EDIT: BTW we'll need a spring compressor. If nobody has one I'll get it from Autozone.

Yep, we're finally gonna get MadMonkey's shocks put on. I have no idea how he waited this long! Anyway, let me know if you want to come and I will send you directions. I am in NE Fort Worth, just south of Northeast Mall.
The old farts wake up early on Saturdays. It's the younger crowd that's still sleeping...
I'd come out, but I'm not sure I'll have time (or even be awake...).

New shocks are in my future as well, so I'll be there to lend a hand and try to learn something. If anybody can share their techniques for cleaning the intake I'd appreciate it.
shocks and springs are easy. I did them by myself in about 4 hours.
That means it will take Madmonkey about 8 hours with all of our bad advice. He'll be Pissedmonkey.
He also wants to install his rollbar if time permits. That's fine with me, but I do not know if I have all of the tools since I have not installed one. Feel free to bring anything he might need. It looks like we could have several people there, so we might be able to get more done than the shocks.
Do you have 4 jackstands? If not I can bring mine. How about a airtank and impact?
I can see if I can get my hands on my buddies spring compressor that I borrowed when I did mine. Works great with an impact.
Well crap, I have to work late Saturday night on a systems upgrade. I may or may not be there depending on what time I actually get to sleep on Sunday Morning.

Yours surely have pins or U bolts to act as retainers for the main coil jaws. This is not affected by using an impact. The threads for the long "bolts" that connect the jaws, and the corresponding threads in the jaws will surely wear out eventually. Not using lubricants, or using an impact to achieve the compressing action will drastically speed the rate of wear. Above and beyond that, though an impact tool will open the possibility of breaking (or shattering, if the tool is cheap) parts of the tool. I have personally watched a compressor fail. Luckily, all that happened was a set of stripped out compressors(I've heard horror stories). If an impact were to cause the jaws to shatter, the tool user would not be a happy camper. Imagine this: you are compressing a 500 lb/in spring. It is compressed 8 inches. That is about 4,000 lbs of stored energy. That is a bad time to break a tool.

Which is why I will always be an advocate of the moving blanket and a wrench method...
For those that don't know or understand, it's an old inside joke.
