2007 Corvette Z06: V8, 7.0 liters. 505hp and 470 lb ft or torque. 3,132 lbs.
I'll be very curious to see whether Nissan's new GTR measures up, especially since the price is expected to be similar. I loves me some Japanese iron as much as the next guy, but American performance cars can get the job done.

Horsepower/liter is a metric that serves no real purpose other than to convince Honda fanbois that their cars really are teh fastar...
C6 Corvette Driver: "I've got 400 horsepower, and I pull sub 13-second quarter mile passes all day long, then put the a/c on and get 30mpg on the way home."
Honda fanboi: "Oh yeah? Well my car makes more horsepower per liter, so there!"

The GM LSx Series of engines really are technological marvels. Just because they aren't DOHC doesn't mean that they're inferior - pushrod design allows for a much more compact engine, and there isn't another mass produced engine in the world of a similar size and weight capable of making comparable power and torque figures while retaining the bulletproof longevity and suprising fuel efficiency of an LSx engine. Not one.

It's always funny when one of the car rags gets together a bunch of Japanese tuner cars (S2000s, Civic Sis, Evos, etc.), many of which have $20-30k worth of mods. They will compare them to one another, declare a winner, and then pit the winner against a bone stock Corvette.
It seems like the Vette always proceeds to destroy the hyperactive rice rocket without breaking a sweat, leaving the rice rocket
I love my Si, and for a $20k daily driver I think it's one of the best cars on the market, but I'm realistic about its limitations as a serious performance car.

I understand what you are saying and props to GM for building a fine engine. I do think that for a non OHC engine, the LSx series is at the top of it's game.![]()
I'm not trying to say, "The Vette sux cuz it aint got no VTEC, yo."
What I am trying to say is that, to me, it seems that domestic auto manafacturers are a little behind the tech/trend curve. Lately they have been following and not leading. The innovation and creativity is lacking as is the testicular fortitude to get the ideas out there and make some cool cars. I have to give it to Ford and Mopar for the new Mustang and Charger models. I think it's a step in the right direction. Make cool cars that people want to buy, and not just another POS Pinto cuz they still have to go from point A to point B.
As far as the whole HP/L thing goes, I think it demonstrates a well enginered engine. The R&D, attention to detail, and percision that goes into getting that level of efficiency must be astounding.
And as far as srivendel's comment goes. I agree, I know my RSX is not a performance automobile. I know Vettes, Stangs, Camaros, and many others will take my car for a walk like some snot nosed chiwawa.

you say that as if the LS series is any less engineered. the 350 chevy has been around for over 50 years. it has been changed (ie. engineered) and updated to keep with modern technology as the years flew by.
all the mean time Honda engines keep getting bigger. 1.5s, then 1.6s. eventually 1.8s. 2.0s came a little later, followed by 2.4s. 3.5l V6 engines as well. they just keep getting bigger. seems more like honda is emplementing the same technology on a bigger and engine and everyone acts amazed when it makes a little more power.160hp on a 1.6l engine? OMG teh roxxors! 200hp from 2l. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

honda engines' high specific output comes from thier high RPM plain and simple. an engine makes more HP with the same amount of torque at a higher RPM. rev the engine to 8000rpm and the horsepower goes through the roof it you keep the torque from dropping too fast. 100 ft/lbs at 5000 makes 95hp. 100ft/lbs at 8000 suddenly makes over 150.
just wait until the LSx can spin to 8K.
now dont get the wrong idea- i have nothing against honda- they do build some great engines. i just dont buy into the whole- trendy JDM OMFG-IF-IT-COMES-FROM-HONDA-IT-MUST-BE-THE-HOLY-GRAIL!!, high specific output is best even if it doesnt make as much power, who has the best price on mugens $3000 cat back.......ok you get the idea.

Watch out sparky, I think there are some board rules being tread on.![]()
Here's a list of the FAQ's
This is a Miata board... Do I need VTEC?
In addition to owning or lusting after a Miata, all members should either currently own, previously owned, or plan to own (or have owned in a past life) a Honda. Civics are preferred, but lawn mowers will do in a pinch.
Why is everybody hating on me?
Try reading your post after you type and BEFORE you hit submit. If you have no idea what you just read, DON'T bother submitting it. If you see any spelling or grammatical errors, fix them BEFORE you submit. If you don't know what spelling and grammar are, go buy a Honda.
Why are there so damn many Hondas here? Isn't this a Miata forum?
Actually, it's a Miata ENTHUSIAST forum. Even though the Miata is a perfect car, as created by God herself, not all of us actually own one. This may be due to more pressing needs (a trunk), emotional problems (need a V, complete insanity (wankel, anyone?) or other problems (small penis). Owners and lovers of ALL cars are welcome here. We only ask that you not drink and post. Folks who post illiterate babble will be teased mercilessly until they cry for their mommies. And we don't usually stop there.

Joking all the way!
Check out the FAQ's at the top. They are some of the best reading on the forum

i looked through them after you posted the excerpts. LOL.
Official pictures of that G8 have been released...
Gallery here.

That looks pretty sharp. Much more performance oriented than a 300C or Charger. Hopefully the 6-speed manual really will make it through to production.
Some cool details form the press release:
The G8 GT is powered by a uniquely configured 6.0L small-block V-8, rated at 362 horsepower (270 kW) and 391 lb.-ft. of torque (530 Nm).
An optional six-speed manual transmission will be available soon after launch.
A limited-slip rear differential is standard with GT models.
The front suspension features fully adjustable caster, camber and toe; the rear suspension has fully adjustable camber and toe, which enables more precise, tailored suspension tuning.![]()
