Wheel studs
Does anyone know what the specs are on the factory wheel studs? Mine are looking really rough, and I want to replace them just for peace of mind.
You shoulda just asked lugnut John at the AX this weekend... after all the ones he's broken, he should be the expert.
I was actually thinking of replacing mine over the winter. The job doesn't look too hard, but I have know idea how expensive the parts are.
I found out that they are 12x1.5, but I am unable to find the stock length. I am planning on getting some ARP studs and being done with it, but I cannot find the correct length.
Brock, be advised that the rear studs are different from the front (at least they were on my '96). I bought some ARP studs last year and was only able to install them on the front hubsApparantly none of the experts on the pointy board were aware of this, or the ones that knew didn't mention it in any of the different stud threads. IIRC, the knurl diameter or length (or both) was larger on the rear.

The tensile strength is about twice that of the factory stuff. They'll last a lot longer when you're changing wheels all the time. If you autocross every weekend plan on changing factory (or other cheapie) studs once a year. The ARP ones will last much longer, at least 2 or 3 seasons.

Geez I have had the same wheel studs since I got the car in January of 2002, which I’m 99.9%, sure are the same ones that went on it in Hiroshima in 1992. I started changing tires for every event when I got the trailer in August of 2002. I have yet to fark up a lug stud. And that's a lot of wheel changes! But I do use anti-seize and thread them all by hand before I run them home and always torque them to spec.

The only reason I changed studs is because my race wheels required a longer threaded length. That's also why I use those silly looking lugnuts - had to have a slender lugnut that would be long enough to handle the longer studs when I put on the street wheels. BTW, the ARP studs that I used on front were #100-7708. I had to cut them down, though because they were too long. I never did find longer studs for the rear, so if anyone does, let me know

i have a bunch of arp studs that i might want to part with, they are the long ones, lemme see what ive got and ill post back.
