I was just about to post the same thing.
It would take an enormous amount of energy to knock a tractor trailer 70 feet. Considering that there is hardly any visible damage to the rear of the trailer, nor are there any visible skidmarks leading to the trailer wheels, I'm going to call bullsh!t on this statement.

It states that the trailer had begun to move forward from the light when hit. Perhaps he had the clutch in while shifting and never hit the brakes.
