    Default Need a lawyer..

    hello everyone!

    long story short, blahblahblah -

I need a lawyer. Someone who deals in small claims/civil. Yes I could look in the phone book but I would like someone who is referred instead of pulling someone who might half - ass it in court.

Please let me know if you know someone who might do a decent job for me!

ps. yes it's about my car.

    thanks. :)

Small Claims, you don't need a lawyer. Just get your ducks in a row!

Unless the other party shows up with an attorney, which happened to me once in small claims court.

If the other party shows up with a lawyer, then request a postponment, due to the fact that you have an unfair disadvantage, with the other party having a lawyer. Then just get any lawyer close to the court. Not only that it cost the other party more, since a second trip will be necessary.

However, rarely do people bring a lawyer to Small Claims.

I'm not a "Lawyer Hater", but I'd guess it's rarely cost effective to get one for a Small Claim.

I had a problem with a Real Estate Agent -- I won't post his name, but I'd be happy to warn anyone about this loser if you PM me -- so I contacted a law firm. They were very nice, and very helpful, but it cost me almost $1,000 to have them listen to my problem (about 45 minutes discussion) and write one letter to the Real Estate Agency. It resolved my problem -- hence the reason I'm not a "Lawyer Hater" -- but if you are talking about a $1,500 to $2,000 problem, be prepared to spend half of that or more to enlist a Lawyer's help.

Sorry to read that you feel that you even need to go this route. If you'd still like a recommendation, PM me. I'd recommend the firm that help me, as they definitely resolved my "case" (never went to court or anything) in a way that was favorable to me.

I agree with everyone who is recommending that you skip the lawyer. I would advise you to make sure your file is very complete, you have all the necessary documentation, and maybe even that you spend a few on some good exhibits.

If you really feel you need a lawyer, PM me and I'll get you a recommendation.
