I'd have to agree with POS on this one -- purchasing some new computer equipment seems like an easy solution to some of the... challenges.
I know laptops aren't cheap (as compared to desktops), but I understand that the SCCA has made a bit of money this year on our local AX activities. Seems like they could spare $3,000 for two (yep, I said 2) very well equiped laptops. And of course the benefit to a laptop is you don't have to leave it in the trailer (to get cooked in the heat, forzen in the cold, and wet in the rain).
I'd have two loaded exactly the same, so that if one craps out, the other can be an immediate backup and simple/quick swap-out at an event. Of course, that means someone would need to remember to bring both laptops...
