Thread: Tie Rod Ends

    Default Tie Rod Ends

Both of my tie rods have torn boots. I figure it would be better/easier to just install new ones.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

Best price I've seen. Dealer wants $50/ea and O'Reilly wants $68/ea

$32 for two seems like a bargain but what do you think of the quality. Why so cheap? Seller has a tremendous reputation.

Yea get some cheap knock off parts off of E-Bay especially since the tie rods don't really do much.

But seriously, they don't say who makes the parts I think that would be an important thing to know.

+1. A tie rod is not where you want to skimp on part quality.

Get them from Mazda. While you are at it buy two that are for an LE with power steering. Mazda made these a little bit different since the car was lowered from the factory. The angle is different to help eliminate bump steer. I swapped mine out last year, but honestly didn's notice much difference. I still have my two stock tie rods if you want to make me an offer

Mazdaspeed motorsports, it's probably reasonable there. I'm guesing i'll have to do them on my 93 as well, steering feels a bit sloppy.

From my experience as a suspension mechanic, I can suggest OEM or MOOG...never had an issue w/ mazda parts or MOOG parts.

I wouldn't suggest going to ebay for this one. and make sure to get an alignment afterwards.

Oh, and to the original question, if the parts aren't too old, and they are still full of grease, w/ little to no dirt then yes you can just slap new boots on em...but typically its in your best interest to just replace them. as these boots keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. (grease and dirt/water respectively.)
