    Default Lasik

Anyone here ever have lasik done? I've been thinking a lot about it lately, especially since this time of year my allergies affect my contacts quite a bit. Any recommendations?

My wife had it done several years ago. She still thinks it's one of the best things she has ever done. I'm still threatening to have it done too.

She went to Clearview in Grapevine (I think they have moved to Southlake now). The surgeon there (Lehman, or something like that) is who other LASIK surgeons go to.

I used Tylock in Irving. I have nothing but good things to say. It was some of the best money I have ever spent. You will be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner.

I got a discount for attending the seminar (which you need to do with any doctor before deciding), a discount for paying up front, tax savings from my flex spending account (put away about $3K if you have this option), and a discount because they were "running a special."

I got Lasik in one eye and PRK in the other. I had to get PRK because of a physical anomaly in that eye. The Lasik eye was good to go by the evening after my surgery, but the PRK eye was annoying for about four days. Either way, it was a pretty easy healing process -- just follow their directions.

Hook up with me at the next event and I can tell you more.

    JUST DO IT!

I've thought about having this done also...my eyes have gotten worse fairly steadily in the last few years. I can barely read street signs without glasses or contacts, and even then I have to REALLY squint.

And I've had some bad experiences lately with contacts

One split in my eye at work.. I got one half out but the other half took another 6 hours to dig out

I have been thinking of taking the lasik plunge this year too. Partly beacause I would like to go eyeglassless and the other is that this is by far the worst pair of eyeglasses I have ever owned. And believe me, I have had a few pairs of BCGs. (For those that don't know, that stands for Birth Control Glasses or Army issue glasses.)

I was considering Boothe or possibly Carter, but after seeing samm's and jrj512's posts I will expand my options.

Gary highly recomended Dr. Carter in North Dallas and thats who I ended up using. I also highly recomend him as well.
Mine was done in Oct of 05 and it is still 20/15.
I did the HD Custom Lasik b/c I needed to have the best vision possible to pass a Army Flight Physical.

Nexus, I definatley hear you about the BCG's. You have to wear glasses for about a week before the surgery if I remember correctly. Carter made complimentary loaner glasses but they were worse than BCG's. I ended up getting a pair of $50 cheapies at one of the eye glass places that were halfway decent to wear in public.

I am one of the few people who have seen some people after these didn't go so well. Ask about what happens if something goes wrong, pick a good Surgeon, and weigh the options....but remember you only have one set of eyes and if you are one of the chosen ones you will never see right again, things can and may be worse and your vision can even fluctuate on a daily basis or you could get infection and lose your vision all together.
I have seen it happen to people, that's why I chose to keep what God intended for me.
When you get really old you get a new set of corneas anyhow.

I completly agree with Chris and Billy. I'm not looking to cut corners to save a few $$. Quality is of the utmost conscern since this is the only set of eyes I have.

I had mine done by a phd/md who had the most experiance in my city. It was expensive and the result are perfect 20/20. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Agreed. I would stay away from the ones who do mass advertising.

I've heard some form of radio advertisement for every doctor mentioned in this thread. Tylock, Carter, Booth and the Clearview facility are all reputable doctors/places to get Lasik done in the DFW area.
