Thread: Two-stroke trimmer will not shut off

Default Two-stroke trimmer will not shut off

I Googled around and could not find anything, so maybe someone here has an idea...

My two-stroke weed trimmer engine will not shut down when I switch it to Off. It slowly got worse -- it stated taking longer and longer to shut down once I switched it to off, but now I pretty much have to turn it upside down and starve it of fuel to get it off. Any ideas on what the cause could be?

    Thanks.

I thought of that, but I was not sure if there was something else down the line that typically gives out instead.

    It is a Sears Craftsman.

Weed eaters and lawn mowers use a magneto that has to be grounded out in order to kill the engine. Somewhere between the switch and the magneto coil, the wire has apparently broken.

If you get a screw driver, you can short out the spark plug to the cylinder head like in the good old days.

I recommend pulling the plug wire off. Barefooted. In wet grass.

Thanks! I'll take a look at the wires coming out of the switch and follow them. Failing that, I guess it's screw driver time... or screw something, anyways.

Engage the choke, until it runs rich like a miata and dies.

Lower your throttle trim, if that doesn't work, throw a rag into the prop.

Oh wait, that's my converted weed-eater engines
