Thread: Hernia Surgery Monday 8/6

  1. #21

    Default I'm home!

My out-patient surgery turned into a 3-day/2-night hospital stay. The hernia was much larger than thought and required additional reconstruction. After surgery I wasn't able to be discharged and Monday night and all day Tuesday was one of the most painful experiences I've ever had (and I've been through 4 kidney stones).

Today was much, much better. Although there is substantial incisional pain, I can get up and walk. Anyway, I'm home. I'm grounded from driving for a week and can't lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for 4 weeks. Fortunately, my girlfriend can help with my errands.

    Thanks everyone for your well-wishes!

My brother was born with a hernia!

    Get well soon.
There are lots of different kinds of hernias! The most common for newborns are umbilical hernias and diaphragmatic hernias. Neither have any relation to what I had.

Wow, Randy. Sorry to hear it, but glad you're back home. Rest up, you'll be back at it before you know it.

    Yeah, but you were younger

I was down for a week or two (I had the old school, big-scar type surgery, not that insurance-paid-for-it, tiny incision jobbie all you go for nowadays

    Best of luck.
