Thread: Low oil pressure today

  1. #1

    Default Low oil pressure today

Today I was leaving the Mall & I noticed the oil pressure was really low, around 15 on the gauge at idle, normally it sits around 30 at idle & goes up with the throddle.

I checked the oil level & everything was fine, no leaks or anything.

The pressure finally went back up to around 30 idling at stoplights, but still that does seem low.

Searching around I stumbled on this thread:
    http://forums.dfwmiata.com/showthrea...light=pressure

I just changed the oil last weekend & grabbed a Fram because it was all they had in stock that wasnt rediculously expensive.

The pressure has been fine untill today, & apears to be back to normal, or close to it.

Do you think this could be the problem?? If so is there a way to change just the filter without having to buy all new Mobile 1?

If you do take that approach, do it when the engine is cold so most of the oil has drained back down to the pan.

And you'll need to add a little to it since there will be oil in the filter.

Yea I believe he does, he comes across as a pretty smart guy. And I do believe he has done an oil change or two on a NA & NB Miata.

    Why do you ask??

Really!!! Well aren't you a smart one!

I'd bet it could hold up to 1/2 a quart, so Jiggerachi is still going to need to pick up a quart to top it off. And Sammm make a good point about doing when the car is cool since the oil in the filter will have a chance to drain back to the pan to help minimize oil loss and make for a cleaner swap.
