Anybody know about Isuzu Rodeo's?
My brother has an Isuzu Rodeo which recently started running pretty... crappily. He took it to Christian Brothers Automotive, who told him to buy a new truck rather than try to overhaul the engine because parts are so expensive and hard to find. Is this true? I thought Isuzu parts were fairly readily available. Anybody here work on them? He doesn't really want to get rid of it but he also doesn't want to blow a pile of money on a rebuild...
Thoughts?

You don't see many of them on the road so that may explain the parts dilemma. My dad used to have an Isuzu pickup with a diesel in it. That thing was bulletproof, but I'd hate to try to find parts for it.

They sold a bunch those first generation Rodeos in the early-mid nineties. If that is the version you have, then you will probably find plenty of them in salvage yards. Still, not the best place for quality engine parts.
On the other hand, if your mechanic tells you to ditch it rather than give him a bunch of money, then maybe you should listen.

I'd guess that most if not all Passport parts are interchangeable though... might be able to find some kind of parts for it.
And Titus, the mechanics said that the engine needed a rebuild (or at least cams, valves, and a couple of other things I can't remember. I'm tired.)

No way, but ya wonder if the mechanic is trying to save Monkey's brother some $$$$ by just letting the Isuzu joint it's brethren in the scrap yard.
What is wrong with the engine? Sometimes, when a mechanic is inexperienced with a certain make/model of vehicle, they will just try to convince you it isn't worth fixing because they wouldn't want to be the one stuck with the job. Are you sure it needs an overhaul? Those engines (I assume it has the gasoline V6) are notorious for water leaks in the "valley" under the intake plenum. If it ran dry, an overheated rodeo engine will likely need a rebuild. If it has rod knock, it will need a rebuild. If the bottom end is still solid, it is repairable. Going by your brother's history with vehicles (what you have said here), however, I would recommend he cut his losses and get something that is REALLY easy and cheap to fix and keep running. 4 cyl. ranger comes to mind.
