Not really interested in becoming a truck driver.

I'd like to ship it insured, had a similar machine arrive in Houston on it's side earlier this year. The manufacturer of the machine does not recommend shipping the machine on it's side since it will *uck it up real bad.

That website is for Pacific Atlantic Freight, a broker. When you call the carrier yourself, you're a one time shipper and don't get much, if any kind of discount. Repeat customers, such as brokers and forwarders, get discounted rates.

The rate on freightquote is cheaper because they buy lots of space on the trucks so they get a better rate. Much like when freight forwarders buy whored out cheap space on FedEx planes and then offer it at a cheaper rate than we can offer it direct.

And who wants "whored out space" when for just a few shekels more you can have clean pure virgin space?

BTW, POS that rate I quoted you is, in fact, whored out space.

For larger, heavier items, I've used BAX Global and a hotshot outfit called Tazmanian. Used the first only once for a personal item (not nearly the size/weight of this equipment) with no issues. We usually use Tazmanian for the heavier, "gotta get it there tomorrow morning" kinda stuff, which is usually on a standard skid (40"w x 48"l x 60"t) and ~2300lbs. Don't recall the cost offhand, though I don't think the drives to Denver would equate to a quick shot to San Antonio.
If you want contact info, I can talk to our transportation dept. & see if they'll shoot me any numbers or email addresses.

If the place that purchased this item has a forklift, my friend/boss and I could haul it down there no problem.
He has a big box truck that he uses for his courier work.

Tasmanian is good (highly recommended) for hotshot service.

I came up with $750 on that site with Central. Is that right?

It was $447.86 and it was insured for $25.00 per pound at that rate.

Showed up in San Antonio yesterday. Only issue was a selector switch key got broken off of it, but that's my fault for leaving the key in the control. Extra keys in my desk.

That is a good deal. Website quoted a higher rate when I plugged it in.
