Thread: Hardtop sling

    Default Hardtop sling

The 2003 hardtop I bought last year came with a lifting sling; a real nice one with fuzzy padded sections where it would touch the paint. I'm guessing it came with the original purchase.

The car was parked at the airport for a while, with hardtop, and now that I'm back and it's still top-down weather I go to winch it off the car and ... A PLASTIC BUCKLE ON THE SLING BREAKS!!! Now there are 3 straps instead of 4 and I'm not sure I trust those remaining ones.

Has this happened before? Where do you get replacement parts?

I'd contact these guys, as they designed the original hoists for Mazda.

Yes it's happened before. IIRC, there was a recall on them.......

Mine looks similar but different; some sort of universal fit product since they claim, "No adjustment is necessary because we tailor each harness to properly fit and balance each individual hardtop." An adjuster is what broke.

Hey, whadya know it looks just like this.

Mine broke and the top landed on the riding lawn mower. Lucky for me the car was not under it when it gave way. Minor damage to the top. I replace the plastic clips with metal snap hooks.

Pics? Where did you buy them?

I can't seem to buy a new harness on it's own; everybody wants to sell a kit with a winch, etc. Best price so far is from Moss Motors but I'd still rather buy only the parts that need replacing.

Hmm, seems I've never been inside Jo-Ann Fabrics before. They have exact things I need for $1.59 each. TCB approved.
