    Default Uh.. timing pulley help..

I'm an idiot, I know. I'm trying to learn though!

What is the technical term for the pulley on the front of the engine that has the timing marks? I desperately need a new one. My brothers truck died and he needs to borrow the Integra from me for a while (for a price ), however, my Miata's timing is still off because of the little inspection fiasco. Turns out my pulley is off kilter; (when it was at 14btdc it was pointing at 12 O'clock ). I'm going to have a temporary replacement put on tomorrow, but I forgot to ask what the name of the part is so I can order a new one.

    Help!

Also, what's the best place to order from? I was going to go with Trussville Mazda...

Thanks. Don't think to badly of me

The timing marks are next to the crankshaft pulley.

Yes, the crank pulley has the notch. It's a two piece pulley with a rubber layer in between that acts as a dampener. When the rubber gets old, hard, and shrunken the outer pully ring will rotate away from its alignment with the inner one. When that happens your timing marks are off.

I had the same thing happen to the spec. When the timing was set according to the marks it was so doggy that it wouldn't even spin the rollers in 2nd gear on the inspection machine. I set the timing by ear and then it passed with flying colors.

I'll be changing out the pulley this weekend. It'll be interesting to see how close I am with the timing by setting it the way I did.
