    Question Westside mechanic/shop

I thought there was an old thread about this, but I can't find it. My truck (Ford) needs some work. Anyone have a mechanic on the westside they trust?

Texas 10 has always done right by me. They're at Hwy 10 and Precinct Line.

What seems to be the problem?

I have the Ford Service CD/Diagnostics. I did check the purge valve voltage and resistance. Both OK.

The next step involves a 'break-out' box and testing some stuff off of the PCM harness.

    EEEWWW

Master Tech on Hwy 10 Across from the Helicopter Factory has a reputation for doing nice work. But I haven't had anyone work on any of my cars in years, except for BS warranty stuff.....

I'm toying with the idea of giving you the opportunity to redeem yourself by helping me lighten the harness for the locost. I think I may be crazy.

I'll give you a short cut... try the one I've already "lightened" and see if that doesn't work.

If it works, well then, there ya go... if not, well, look out kids... NMH!

I don't think your 1.6 harness will do much good with a '96 ECU and sensors.

Quick question, does the valve work or is it stuck?

How much is that little jewel?

Dunno. Around $35 for a new one. Given the age of my truck ('97), I might try replacing the lines first. What do you think?

Well lets do the math $35.00 for the part vs. $75.00 to $85.00 an hour to trouble shoot the issue plus parts.

As local hero Sammm would add to the end of a post like this =

    Default back from the dead...

I posted this on a Ford truck forum. I know it's a longshot, but you never know....

My truck has been throwing a CEL P0443 code (EVAP system). Truck runs fine, idles fine, no problems. The problem is it's due for it's yearly inspection (Texas state law) and it won't pass with an active CEL. I replaced the purge solenoid valve and it is still happening. I finally took it to the dealer for their diagnosis. They told me the ECU needs to be replaced, but it's discontinued thru Ford.

I found remanufactured ones (Rockauto.com and NAPA), but still have a question. There is a calibration sticker on my truck that reads "7-43E". There is also an ECU code sticker that reads "EEA2". Rockauto and NAPA bought use the 7-43E number for the correct flash. Is that all I need to match so I can just swap one for the other? Would any other programming be needed with the replacement ECU? Is the VIN info stored in the ECU?

Wow Ford Discontinued the ECU that sucks!

I'm thinking the Ford Forum is going to be your best bet they always had great information back when I would find myself walking the last little bit to work when my Expeditions would die, good times good times!
