Thread: S2K Track Event @ Harris Hill in ATX 7/26

    Default S2K Track Event @ Harris Hill in ATX 7/26 (56K Death Warning, Pics added)

    For anyone that wants to check out the Harris Hill in Austin, the local s2kCA club is hosting an event there on 7/26.

    Registration is 185 for non S2KCA members and 170 for members.

    I was a definite for this event until I realized I might be in DFW for a Journey concert, but I'm not sure yet.

    If you're passing up a cheap track day for a Journey concert, you *might* be a child of the 80's...

    So I missed Journey and went to the trackday. I'll make up for it and see Cowboy Mouth next month.

    Well the S2KCA put on a great event. No black flags, only one pass flag for a DP Miata w/o mirrors. A couple spins, not by me, and no accidents. AFAIK everyone who drove there drove home.

    The Bad: It was freaking hot! Not for me, well for me too, but for the Miata especially. I've done MSR in the summer and never had a problem, the 2-4th sessions I had cooling issues. 2nd session I noticed about 3/4 the way through, and it got worse throughout the day. 4th session I got 2-3 good laps and tried to cool it off in the pits, but couldn't get the temp down so I packed it up.

    The other silver turbo had the same problems and so did the Yellow stock NB. Albeit, Jon can drive his car alot harder/faster even in stock form. He was putting down consistent 1:41.5 with me in the car and my fastest of the day was 1:47 IIRC. I'll have to check my watch logs.

    Followed by more good: I was out the gate and into my driveway in 15 minutes. Harris Hill is beckoning very hard.

    These pictures above weren't mine. I only took a handful at the pit exit turn during the instructor laps before my brother's camera battery died.

    That's me. Not sure who was in the car. I told my students they could ride with me. It seemed like I always had someone different int he car.

    He was having hood vents made to help with cooling. The thought crossed my mind to take mine off after the 2nd session.

    Maybe I'll try that next time if heat is still an issue.

    Where's your video or pics? What are you using for telemetry?

    Someone said Lance was running a 1:28-1:30, did he ever give out his official times?

    I need to edit video. It is not the fancy one, just my camera. I was using PerformanceBox. Lance was on Hoosier R6s I was on Falken RT615. We were even on straights and every turn he would pull away just a bit. Doing a count in my head He was about 3 seconds ahead.

    Nice pix! That's me in the white NC earlier in the thread - This was its first real trackday and I'm pretty happy with it - I was turning consistent 1.35's on street tires, at least according to the sweep hand on my watch :)

    According to Lance's GPS thingamajig, his best prior to the last session was 1.29.xx with pretty consistent 1.30/1.31s IIRC.

    Good time and great seeing other Miata folks out there.

    What do you have done to your NC? IIRC someone was saying you had intake, header, exhaust and suspension. What kinda power is that on a NC?

    Ohlins coilovers, and I/H/E and good-win-racing midpipe. Consensus is that the combo is worth about 20 to the wheels on an NC. I'm pretty happy with the setup in general, but I can definitely handle lots more tire under the car. I'm going to try an intermediate step with some take-off 235 RA-1s then step up to 255 r888's if I still want more stick. Or 275 Hoosiers if I go insane
