Thread: Helmet recommendations?

    Default Helmet recommendations?

Hey I am looking at going to cresson this weekend to try on a few different helmets etc.. I want to get something that will allow me to do autox and track days, as well as last for the long term. I do not need to buy another one anytime soon.

Do I need to be looking into just SA2005 rated helmets or what does everyone think?

I have an M helmet and have never needed an SA for any events around DFW.

Certain track event organizers (not autocross) require an SA helmet. If you tink you want to do track events as well as autocross, do yourself a favor and buy an SA helmet.

and depending on how much you want to spend, think about a kevlar helmet -- much lighter and your neck will like that after 120 minutes of track time in a day

get a helmet that really fits by looking on websites to see how to measure your head

I think it is use a cloth tape measure about 1" above the eyebrows around the head and then look at the chart that shows how many inches are what size

a cheap helmet will be S M L sizes that may or may not fit properly

depends on how much your head is worth

just as an example, I spent about $400 on each of my Bell brand SA2005 kevlar helmets

white and black are cheapest colors
