Default Great Pumpkin Rally to Paris, Texas

The Great Pumpkin Rally will start at Starbucks, just off I30, in Rockwall Texas. Registration will be in the parking lot at 8:00am on Saturday, October 24th. There will be a required novice safety briefing at 8:30am, followed by a short rally school (optional) with first car out at 9:01am. The rally will end in downtown Paris, Texas at the Festival of Pumpkins. Awards will be given at the Visitors and Convention Council Office on the downtown square.

Entry fee: $30 for non-members (discount for SCCA members). You may register online at http://tinyurl.com/GPR09msr . Create an account if needed, then follow the instructions to register for “The Great Pumpkin Rally” on October 24th. Note: there is a $5 late-fee for all those who do not register online or by mail. To register by mail, contact [email protected].

The rally course covers about 120 miles of scenic North Texas country in Rockwall, Hunt, Fannin and Lamar counties, all of which are paved. This will be a scenic drive to the northeast. You will stay on course through the use of mileage instructions and answer questions based on observations along the route. There are no traps or course following skills required for this rally. You just need a sense of fun to try to figure out the rallymaster’s sense of humor and answer the questions.

To get to the start take I-30 to the exit for FM540 (Ridge Road). Turn right on FM540 (Ridge Road) and make an immediate left into the shopping center with Starbucks. There will be a check point sign with a grey Subaru in the parking lot.

Please join us for a day of driving fun, whether you drive a family car, a sports car, or a vintage car! And then enjoy the live music, food, and antique shops in downtown Paris and the Festival of Pumpkins.

For more information on the SCCA rally program, see www.texasscca.org, and click on “Rally”. The event flyer will be posted there shortly. This rally is sanctioned by SCCA, and a part of the National SCCA RoadRally Championship. Sanction Number 2009-RGTA-41-06.

Please note: if there will be a minor child (under 18 years old) in the car with you for the rally, an SCCA “Minor Release” must be turned in, signed by both parents. If both parents will not be at registration, a notarized form with both signatures must be presented. You may request a blank form at [email protected].

Always been interested in doing a roadrally might be there for this one. What's the general run down on rules and what not?

Any street-legal car. Valid driver's license and insurance. Two people (more, if you like). Legal speeds at all times (you can still have fun on the highway on a 40MPH curve at 50!) All turns at a given mileage, so no getting lost. Answer questions from signs and landmarks along the route. Some of the answers are punny. I mean funny. There is a First-Timer class, so you might take home some hardware your first time out!

Come try it out! We do this six or seven times a year, starting and finishing at different places, and with different sets of skills needed. Our next event starts in Arlington on November 21st, and we expect about 40 cars to enter.
