Thread: I need an SA2005 or newer helmet!

Default I need an SA2005 or newer helmet!

Has to be "post anchor" HANS compatible. I've been searching, looking, and searching. Price is important as well as comfort, shape, style, ventilation, etc.

Zamp makes a very affordable and nice helmet that is HANS compatible.

I want some opinions. What are you guys running?

Can't help with your helmet selection but you might check with Vick Racing on the Southeast side of Fort Worth. I bought an SA2000 open face G-Force helmet from them about 18 mo ago. He was closing it out and I think I paid around $100 for it. Even his regular prices were good for the newer (at the time) SA2005 helmets. Super nice guy. He even coordinated to meet me and open up their store on a Saturday so that I could pick it up. Their website is www.vickracing.us

Since the SA2010 helmets are coming out. Make sure to take advantage of the 2005 closeout deals. I was able to get my SA2000 Pyrotect for just over $100 when the 2005s came out.

I'm not sure about HANS compatibility. I just picked up a DefNder instead.

SA2005 is still currently the "newest" Snell certification available. The Snell SA2010 certification won't even be released until October 1, 2010.

Are you sure you don't need an SA2000 or newer helmet? Most racing organizations require current or previous certification, which would mean an SA2000 would still be valid for this season.

FWIW, I've had my SA2000 Simpson Super Bandit (aka Stig helmet) since I bought it in '02, and I've been very happy with it. One recommendation: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! I was set on buying a Bell M3 when I went helmet shopping, but Bell helmets don't fit my head shape well. The Simpson is comfortable, has several different available visors, and is compatible with HANS post anchors. It's been a great helmet, and I'll buy another one to replace this one once the SA2010 helmets are released.
