Thread: Anyone try tire treatments like Formula V, Hot Lap or Track Claw?

Default Anyone try tire treatments like Formula V, Hot Lap or Track Claw?

Buddy of mine gave me (as in free) an old set of Hoosier R6 Tires that are hard as a rock. They have plenty of tire left as the grooves are still showing. They've just got hard with heat-cycles and age. I believe they are about 6 years old. (Yikes)

Before I tossed them, I did an internet search, and evidently, there are tire treatment available that claim to restore hard rubber for race tires.

Here is a list of various tire treatments.

Anyone have an experience with these, will they work on 6 year old Hoosiers or are they just snake oil?

Don't bother. Six years old in Hoosier life qualifies them for carbon dating

Don't know about the tire treatments but I ran a set of A3S05's that were about 5 years old a few seasons ago and they still worked good enough for local events. The tires you have are probably just rock hard because they are cold. Get them up to temp and I bet they are still stickier than street tires.

Back when I ran R comps we used formula v a few times. I did help older tires but only for a few runs. Ultimately it wasn't worth the time and expense.

I would recommend taking them to a cul-de-sac and scrubbing off the top layer of rubber. Mark Wortham acquired a "well aged" set of Hoosier rains a while back. He called Hoosier and that's actually what they recommended.

To mush tire for you, throw them away.

Coyote piss works well. But you need to capture it on a full moon before it hits the ground. Jeff_man can help, he is good at this.
    M3 is always the answer.

Funny. I acquired some well aged hoosiers from Mark Madarash and they were purple from the heat he generated. I don't think donuts in the cul-de-sac would have helped them much lol.

Buy some toluene, soak the tire, and store it for a couple of days wrapped in toluene soaked paper towels all wrapped up in saran wrap. I GUARANTEE those tires will be nice and squishy afterwards. And if you don't want them, I'll take them and do it myself!
