Thread: Inspection & Front Plate??

    Question Inspection & Front Plate??

Took the POSIV in for a Texas Sate Inspection with the bonus OBD1 roller test this morning.

The car passed with no issues.

One thing I forgot to do was to put a front plate on it for the day.

Since it passed I take it it isn't part of the inspection??

I don't know either, but I've passed everytime with no front plate.

Not a part of inspection. If it was, more people would run a front plate, cutting down on the great revenue generation all of the local municipalities take advantage of.

Well poop and all these years I spend all that extra time and effort to put the plate on the car for a day......

    Well live and learn!

For future reference, a list of what is included in State inspections can be found here:

    Transportation Code Chapter 548

If it ain't on this list, they can't fail it. I carry a copy of this in the car in case the inspection techs try to screw with me. I've had several try to fail it in the past for missing lug nuts.

    I can't say that I don't blame them.

It was a POS '84 Subaru that was worth less than the gas in the gas tank. 2 missing nuts out of 16, on two different wheels? Not going to be an issue. The same inspection station told me my engine was overheating at idle (it wasn't) and that my muffler was cracked (it wasn't). Took it to a different station and it passed with flying colors. Inspection stations can lose their state accreditation for doing stuff like that.
