Exclamation Fuel Pump (or Deja' vu)

The fuel pump from Autozone mentioned in an earlier thread has already died and been replaced under warranty. I guess the Airtex E2111 is good for about 20,000 miles.

On a related note, I had the most needlessly long conversation with an auto parts person. Below is the shortened version. The actual conversation featured a lot more repetition, and took three or four minutes.

Me: I need to get this fuel pump for my Miata replaced under warranty. The part number is Airtex E2111. It failed before a year is up. My phone number is XXX.

Him: I need to look up the part number and the warranty information, first. What is your phone number?

    Me: XXX...

    Him: And your name?

    Me: (gives name)

Him: (writes down phone number). You have a lot of cars in your record. Which car did this go in?

Me: It went into the Miata. It is an Airtex E2111, doesn't it show in the warranty record the part number that I bought?

Him: What year is your car?

Me: It is a 1999 Miata. The part number is Airtex E2111

Him: I have to look up the part number before I can replace the part. It's a Mazda?

Me (wondering why he doesn't do a direct swap based on the warranty registration in the computer, since there is only one fuel pump record) Yes. Doesn't the warranty info show the part number?

    Him: MX-5 Miata?

Me: Yes. Doesn't the warranty info show the part number?

Him (finding the part number corresponding to a Miata fuel pump in his system, mumbling and writing it down): ...e2111.

He goes and gets the part, and the rest of the transaction goes off without any more delays.

Glad I didn't get that one and got a used one from Nissan Mazda Heaven. I'm not sure how (or if) they cleaned it, but it looked pristine.
