Thread: POS needs computer shopping help!

Question POS needs computer shopping help!

Well I need to get a portable for work!

I haven't bought a computer in a couple of years so I got no clue what I should even be looking at in a portable.

The absolute maximum I will spend is $500.00.

I run Microsoft Office & Quick-books and of course surf the interweb.

I know many of you are computer peeps so what should I be looking at?

    TIA

Size? How much are you going to be carrying it around? How long do you need it to go on battery?

Would like a decent size so I can see it so a 17" I guess.

It will go to and from the office with an occasional customer visit.

Battery isn't critical I got a 110V plug at work and home!

get a new egg premium account, $500-999 no interest for 6 months, $1000-2000 1 year and it's not a credit card. Toshiba are grate imo.

can also check http://www.dell.com/outlet you will get the best deal there but only look at the site when you have cash ready as the pc you see will be gone in a few minutes.

    FAIL.

Check Best Buy for deals. Buddy of mine just picked up a nice Toshiba for about $500, IIRC. Not a 17" though...

a 17" is NOT portable. You have to buy a special bag for it honestly.

I'm about to sell my 14" Lenovo T400... It's been really good for the last year (I can expense laptops, so I get a new one every year).

    I don't want a baby computer I'd like something I could see!

A 10 key keyboard would also be a big plus.

Get an external keyboard and mouse and leave them at work. That way you have a full size keyboard, comfortable mouse and portability. You will HATE lugging around an 8#+ laptop that requires a rolly case.

That's not a standard laptop backpack. I have an Ogio I've used for about 6 years now and my new "15.4" laptop (with the 10 key) won't fit into the laptop zipper section as it's too big. There's no way a 17 or 18 will fit. My old 15" fit though.

I've been lugging a laptop to work every day since 2004. If you're like me you want something reasonably light, two power adapters (one for work, one for home), reasonable battery life (2hrs min, 4+ better), good keyboard and a decent display (since you'll be looking at it all the time). A good setup at work (keyboard, mouse, laptop stand) goes a huge way to making your life easier.

it's a 16" laptop back pack i walked into fry's and picked up and my laptop fits. it's really a hiking bag and has a laptop 1/2 pocket added then repacked as a laptop bag but it's nothing special. and there are butt loads of 17" laptop bags at fry's and other places.

Based on what you're doing I would say MacBook, even if you just ran windows instead of osx
