Thread: FS- '96 Torsen LSD Diff

  1. #1

Default FS- '96 Torsen LSD Diff

This 4.10 torsen came out of my '96M parts car. As you can see in the picture, one of the carrier ears is broke, but I obtained a new carrier for it. I have a drive shaft for it, but do NOT have good axles. This should be an easy swap to upgrade any '94-05 Miata with an open diff, or it will go into a 90-93 Miata if you pick up some axles.

    $350.

Not all axles are not the same. Make sure you get the correct ones.

If you sell it to someone with a 1.6, I would be interested in the driveshaft...providing the u-joints are quiet.

Too bad it's a 4.10... my 2000 has the 4.3 in it and I need a torsen, but I don't need less grunt either :) Maybe someone with an FI NB should buy this

You might get a little less grunt, but it will give you a higher top speed in second gear... That might be worth more in autocross than the grunt. Also, IIRC, it is possible to swap the ring gear from your open over to the torsen if you want to maintain the 4.3.

ya you can swap the pinion, its just not a skill that I have and hiring it out might be cost prohibitive. My car is pretty gutless with the AC on now and I can't imagine it would get any better! Good price though :)

The market seems down on used Miata parts. Stuff isn't selling or bringing the prices they once did.

true...I got a whole swap for nearly that...and there was a 96 torsen on the DFW CL just a week or two ago for $300 I believe...maybe 250 out in garland i think.

I've been taking it up the poo chute lately trying to sell off my crap the market sucks now. Why not just throw it in the new assembly and try again in a month. Sometimes it works.

List it on san antonio, austin and houston craigslists too. I could have had this sold for ya @ $400 EASY last year this time :)

    FWIW...$400 isn't a bad price normally I think.

I think Robert Payne, two scoops, Red Miata? He was telling me that a Torsen was going to be his winter project. He did not have the parts yet. If someone has his screen name or phone number this sounds like a good deal. He is in Mineral Wells.

dammit. I want this. Dibs assuming the swap is easy.

Any issue with moving the guts from one carrier to the other? Have to reset the backlash or anything? I can do major mechanical, but "struggles with attention to detail" was always on my progress reports, so I want to avoid stuff that has me measuring 0.0001" of an inch.
