Thread: Insurance???

  1. #1

    Default Insurance???

I've been mulling over changing insurance companies so I need some input. I've been looking at amica because I have my homeowners through them and it would save me $200 a year on that but I'd pay $1900 a year to cover both cars. The other I'm seriously considering is farmers who is about $1050 a year for the same coverage but I don't know much about them. Give me your stories about both.

You guys must have a horrendous driving record.

I got a teenager & 4 cars (2 with full coverage) and I pay $1,980.00 a year with State Farm.

Nope actually neither of us have had any tickets or wrecks. It's cheap for the miata but the 2013 mustang doesn't help.

I'm with Liberty Mutual and pay $148 per month for the 2006 Miata, at 2000 Silverado and a 2009 Toyota combined. I have not heard good things about Farmers regarding claim payouts.

Not a company per say, but my independent agent seems to get me the best price, you might give him a call. Through progressive, full on the 2008 Mazda 3, Full on the 2013 ST, and Liability+ uninsured motorist on the Miata runs us about $1300-$1400 a year (and I have the coverage amounts jacked waaay up because 90% of my driving is done where hitting a Bentley or Aston Martin is a possibility, lol). I pay $400 a year for the 1990 Miata with Florida coverage, just me on the policy, $500 deductible, free glass, whatever Florida's mid-level coverage is (like $250k/750k I think?). I pay $800 a year for the 2001 Pathfinder and 2006 Cobalt, for both my wife and I (her record is horrendous), full coverage on both, usual Texas coverage amounts ($100k/300k). We bundled it with our Texas house, which required having two cars and the house (which is why my Miata is so much in Florida - I can't get the same bundle). Independent agent, going through Progressive, of all companies.

I've read nothing but horror stories about Farmers when it came time to file a claim. Was enough to sway me from going with them when I moved out here.

This thread is funny... It appears no one actually read all of the first post. lol

My first programming job was writing software to rate Auto/Home insurance, all 50 states, multiple companies.
    1. None of the above posts give enough information to give a meaningful comparison.
    2. Texas has the most arcane insurance rating rates/rules. Texas is a bureau state, with an insurance board full of insurance industry insiders.
Your age, zip code and credit rating have as much to do with your auto rates as your driving record with the same coverages, deductibles and auto types.
There is a State website where you can compare rates for multiple companies.

I had Farmers many years ago, dropped them due to rate creep. My daughter had Amica quite a while, very good service. I like their liability coverage as it was not broken down into seperate catagories, ie they did not seperate bodily and propery limits. For example say you hit a parked 911, your entire liability policy limit was available to pay for the damages since there were no bodily injuries to pay for.

If memory serves me right, progressive wanted around $35-$90 for Liability, Min-Max coverages $$$
