    Default Tulip Time Rally

Ah, spring! Lovely weather, blue skies, flowers everywhere. I love to drive in the country at this time of year. I'll bet you do too. So we have set up a roadrally out in the country, and have even added some fun competition. Don't you think you should join us?

You probably thought the tulip flowers mentioned in the subject had something to do with our first RoadRally of the year, didn’t you? Think again. There is a new kind of rally instruction called a tulip that we will be using. It was invented by a Dutch rallymaster of the Tulip Rally, an event that did have something to do with the flowers called tulips.

A new instruction type isn’t the only thing new about this rally: we are going to introduce you to a new method of scoring, timing to the second. But this is easy: all you need is a watch with a second hand. We ask you to drive a one-hour loop north of Denton, twice, in exactly the same time. The team that comes closest to that goal will be the winner. There will be a few bonus questions in case of ties.

New instructions, new scoring, and a wonderful new starting place: the Pack Automotive Museum in Farmers Branch. This is a private collection of 100 old and significant cars, that you can enjoy during registration for the rally. It is at the corner of Diplomat Dr. and Senlac Dr., found between I-35E freeway and Bush Turnpike.

The rally will be held on Saturday, April 20. Registration opens at 9am at the museum. The first car will start at 10am. Cost is $20 for SCCA members, and $25 for non-members. We will end in a Denton-area restaurant for a late lunch. Preregistration is at http://msreg.us/TTR13msr . There will be a $5 late fee in Farmers Branch for those who do not preregister. Those who do preregister will get the event rules via email prior to the rally.

The event is open to any street-legal vehicle, and there must be two or more people aboard. Course following will be easy, with mileages at most instructions. See the flyer at www.texasscca.org/rallytime/rally-events--results (click on flier for Tulip Time Rally).

The rally is only a week away, 24 cars have already entered, but no Miatas! Just one of you will make three Mazdas to form a Team to compete against Chevy and Subaru.

We do have Ferrari, Viper, Honda S2000, Porsche GT3, Jaguar XK-8, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, Mazda RX8, Mazda 3s, Subaru Sti, Subaru WRX, Lexus, Hyundai, Mini, Solstice, VW New Beetle, VW Rabbit, Chevy SSR, Chevy Cobalt, and 1957 Chevy Bel Air. There's room for more....I expect around 40 cars on rally day. It's supposed to be warm and sunny.

They are polishing the cars in the museum getting ready for us!

See http://msreg.us/TTR13msr for more info and to preregister.
