Thread: selling high mileage van question

Default selling high mileage van question

Getting ready to sell my 2002 Odyssey, motor mounts are shot and shocks/struts could probably be refreshed at ~~180k. Never sold a car outright before.

Question: I can replace all motor mounts & suspension, but would want to charge 500 or so extra afterwards. Is it better to just sell it as is, or will I be able to sell it for enough extra to recoup the price & time spent? I'll be doing all work myself. I know new cars probably would not recoup any cash invested, but not sure on old cars that you'd expect to find mechanically tired.

I'll probably post it up here before craigslist if anyone's interested as soon as I can get decent photos. I'll be listing it here for the gearheads pre & post mechanical refresh & priced accordingly.

    Thanks for any info.

Sell it as is.............usually you do not recoup what you put into it.

You might replace the front motor mount if it's moving around as much as I suspect it is, but beyond that you certainly wouldn't recoup your time and $$$.

If you were as slow as me, you wouldn't be afraid either.

You probably won't recoup the money you put into it, but you might get a lot of passes on it. I'd roll the dice and sell it as-is. Hell, I sold my high-miles '98 Camry with a busted transmission for about what it was worth all fixed (and close to my asking price). I just cleaned it up and the right buyer happened along.

    YMMV
