Default US Vintage Racing National Championship at COTA, October 25-27

The inaugural SVRA US Vintage Racing National Championship is going to be hosted this year at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX on October 25-27.

This looks like a lot of fun - honestly, more fun to me than going to watch the F1 race. Prices are a lot more reasonable ($59 for 3-day Gernal Admission pass, $35 for parking), and there should be a lot of really cool racing to watch.

Melissa and I are planning on going, and we're going to take Colin with us (it'll be his first "real" motor race). My parents are also planning on joining us, since they love vintage cars as well.

We booked a couple of rooms at the Springhill Suites just south of downtown on I-35. Couldn't get any rooms at my customary Marriott on 4th street downtown, so there must be something else going on in town that weekend.

Anyone else interested in going? COTA, beautiful vintage cars, early fall weather in Texas... it should be a great weekend!

Vintage race weekends are awesome. Been to a couple out of state, and the people are so nice and if you are polite you can chat with the drivers and mechanics in the pits, get good photos, etc.

Not gonna go to this one because I am planning to go to the ALMS-WEC race at COTA in Sept, but probably will do this event in 2014.

Had a blast watching those cars run at Sebring this spring. Access in the pits and paddock was awesome as well. If my schedule allowed I would be there.

Man, what an awesome weekend of vintage cars and great racing! There were over 600 cars racing during the weekend, everything from recent LMP1 and LMP2 cars to pre-war blower Bentleys complete with riding mechanics!

I took the whole family down for the weekend (including my parents and my three-year old son) and they all had a blast. I didn't bother to bring a "real" camera, but the beauty of the cars made even my iPhone pics look good!

SVRA announced during the event that they've inked a five year deal with COTA. We will definitely go down again for this event next year!

Here's a link to some of the pictures I took over the weekend. Enjoy!

    it was a great weekend

the quality of the cars was less than Monterey, but most of them were really trying to go fast and race rather than cruise

way more rubbin' than other vintage events I've been to

the engine in the Z06 I crewed for wiped out a cam on Wednesday afternoon, so the car went back to the shop in Houston and the engine was gone thru

returned Sat too late for the am session, but ran 80 minutes of the 90 minute enduro on Sunday and then the clutch broke

all in all it was a fun time

and I now know COTA really well after driving almost a hundred miles (but only on a golf kart)
