Thread: Header on the way

  1. #1

    Default Header on the way

Just ordered the Power Pulse Header by Racing Beat from Goodwin.
Should recieve it by late next week, I will post a pic when its done.
Next is the Midpipe to connect the Header to the Roadster Sport and thats a years worth for me.

I have not done the Header before, is there anything I should be aware of?
I feel more confident in doing it after tackling the suspension job, can't be that bad right?...lol

Anyways,...thanks for the advise and help as always.

BTW, Sammm, how is your new Muffler sounding? mine seems to be settling in with a great sounding note and I can tell it is breathing much easier...it really sounds great!!
Are you doing a Header with yours too?

Sammm is sticking with "stock" legal mods... I'll be putting a header in mine as soon as shuhart1 gets through playing with it (hint-hint). It's a pretty easy swap - just make sure you've put enough lubricant on those bolts that they come off when you get ready.

Kewl Thanks, with the Muffler I started lubing them like a week before.
I think I will go out and shoot them with some liquid wrench today, the impact wrench dont hurt things either...lol of coarse I have not broken a bolt head off yet using it (knock on wood) (supplimenting with head).

The EGR tube may be the only "fun" part of the install. I know it took about an hour and a half of "gently coaxing" it into position.

TC is correct. I am staying Stock legal. I'm too cheap to get into the money pit know as 'Prepared' ! The muffler is definately getting better with age and that new muffler smell is gone too. The car does seem to launch quicker! I am very happy with it.

    Billy,
What are you calling the midpipe? The header replaces the stock manifold and the downpipe. Then comes the cat. Then comes the two-piece exhaust. ?????

On the 99, the Midpipe has the Cat and the resonator chamber welded into it as one piece. You can check it out at www.Good-win-Racing.com the NA's have a different steup.
The Goodwin version is 2.5 inches from tip to tip and made of SS, pretty nice looking piece with a HI-Flo Cat....$299.
It goes Header, Midpipe (Cat and resonator chamber),Muffler.

I think I am going to just install it Friday when it comes in, can't wait.

But I got to thinking about something....
Will this be ok without heat shielding?
I mean just installing the header with no heat shield.
It would be a shame to cover up all that shiny pipe.
    Thanks

While a heat shield would lower intake temperatures and improve performance (ever so slightly), it is not a necessity. If you really want one, I suggest THIS ONE.

One reason to consider the JR header... I believe it comes ceramic coated which would be much better heat-wise....

It does in fact come with a ceramic coating! And it looks great!!!

The real intent of the ceramic coating is to keep heat in the header which improves flow... The butt dyno is delighted, btw.

shuhart1 makes a nice heat shield that wraps around the header at the manifold - probably not a bad idea with the Racing Beat unit.

Of course. As I'd hoped, it's mellowed out a lot of the harshness in the exhaust note. Throttle response has smoothed out - most apparent anywhere below 4,000 rpm. And, as I said, the butt dyno is happy.

    Something to consider,...thanks
I sure dont want to cover it up tho...dang it!, maybe it wont be so bad.
I chose the RB cause Goodwin says it consistantly out performed the JR and was cheaper.
I am sitting here patiently awaiting its arrival....lol
I think I am going to go ahead and take the old one off to make it quicker when it gets here.
I will for sure post pics this evening of the new Header, unless I run into trouble or have to put it off til Sunday as originaly planned.

So how long did it take for yours to break in TC?
I hope it takes about as long as the muffler I just installed (around a week).
Main reason I was concerned about the heat was hoses and such, don't want anything melting...lol

Thanks again for the input and suggestions, link etc.
