I am going to try replacing my valve seals with the head still attached to the block. I found some pics of the head and was wondering if there is any special valve spring compressor that I need before starting this. It appears that the valve springs are recessed and I do not think that the compressor I have will work with the head still attached to the block.

This is just a bandaid until I can disassemble the the replacement engine and port and polish the head, as well as port match the intake and turbo manifold to the head.
More on that project later, though.
I don't see how that tool works. It seems that once you compress the spring, you can't get to the retainers.......

A valve seal in #4 went totally on the way home Friday. Luckily it was only about a half mile from the house.
FYI the tool mentioned above will not work with the Miata head at all without major modification. The O2 sensor method mentioned on the
board will not work either unless the outside diameter of the socket is less than 30mm.
One of the things that I learned is that 30mm is the size of the hole that the lifters rest in.
I finally pulled the head, and should have a replacment by Thursday. In the mean time I am going to start "cleaning" up the intake.
