Thread: Brake Rotor Questions

  1. #1

    Default Brake Rotor Questions

Planning to do a brake job on the '99 and I'd like to repaint the hat sections on the rotors since they are rusting up a touch. Would just a good quality high temp paint work?

    TIA

It would... but I've seen better results with a thicker, brush on laquer rather than a rattle can job.

Of course, the name of the game here is prep, prep, prep. I did the lazy man's version years ago on the VW and it took me longer to remove the crappy job I did than it would have taken to properly prep the first time.

Stick with the brush on type, but keep in mine that if you drive where you will generate a lot of heat the paint will get soft and the brake dust sticks to it making the paint turn more grey.

I did mine and the wheels flat black a couple weekends ago.

I used can of spray on flat silver (rust o leum enamel or high temp), but shiny silver would probaly look good too.

I didn't just spray it on, I sprayed in a bucket and used a brush for 2 coats. Also did the calipers in blue and the wagon wheels in flat black baby.

OK so the pads showed up, and I need to start thinking about doing the brakes on the '99.

Got another question the brakes currently work pretty darn good, no pulses in the pedal it doesn't pull, looks like it just need pads.

Should I resurface the rotors, or would it be OK to sand the the rotors with a random pattern and put on the new pads??

If they ain't warped, why turn 'em? Just sand them and be done with it.

Flat black - BBQ Paint for rotors, just be sure to tape off where the pad is meeting the rotor and leave a little extra exposed rotor.

You can use it on the front, just not on the rears. Since you would crush all these bits..
