It's the now famous truck and I'm pretty sure John Cusack is getting in the driver side of that Acura.

That's not sad, that's wonderful. It means you aren't filling up landfills and creating more junkyards.

I have a short list too.

79 Honda Prelude first car in 84 developed a head leak traded for an
80 Honda CB750 Custom was totaled and bought an
81 Honda CB900F then after about 7 years of Indiana winters I got an
88 Chevy S10 and went through two engines on this one. And then got my
    95 Harley FXSTS Springer
Sold truck and Honda 900 to move to Texas almost 11 years ago. Brought the Harley with me. Then got a
92 Cadillac Sedan Deville which was totaled so I bought an
02 Dodge Ram Van 1500 which was a big POS I had maybe 6 months that spun a bearing stranding me in Custer State Park SD. I then got a
99 Mazda Miata 10AE which about a month later sold to my girlfriend for half price. Then got an
02 Chevy Dually which was a POS I owned maybe 3 months tops before selling it for a loss due to $4 a gallon gas. Then I got an
06 Mazda Miata and think it will be a very long time before I find a vehicle at this price/performance/reliability level.

Without Goggling it, I know what a 1974 OSSA MAR is. I had a 1970 250cc OSSA Plonker.

(For the rest of you, MAR stood for Mick Andrews Replica.)

    Hi Doug,

I found it a good home, and gave it away, only days before my oldest discovered he was big enough to start it. Saved us both a ton of grief.

No particular order, since there is plenty of overlap between some of these.

1964 Chevy pickup. Never ran. Learned to disassemble a vehicle.

1972 GMC Sierra Grande. It was missing the guts in the left rear brake drum... PO wired the slave cylinder down. I drove on 3 brakes for a few months before discovering this. You could literally see the fuel gauge move when you floored it. Mildly warmed-up 350, towing gears, 8-gallon tank, no overdrive. 5MPG. Learned to floor it in tunnels. Learned drum brakes.

1994 Ford Ranger. I got rear-ended in this truck by the daughter of the Wylie Driving School owner/instructor. Insurance did not total it, but paid me what I paid for it. I drove it dented until I flipped it and sold to a guy living in a tent for $500. I came out ahead. Learned to flip a truck.

1996 S10 Blazer 4x4. My first venture into jumping a vehicle. Learned to rebuild a front end after a fender-bender. Learned about girls (Fold-flat rear seat). Learned seller's remorse.

1988 Ford Ltd. This car got more air than the Blazer after I watched the music video for Sabatoge (Beastie Boys). Learned to get in a trunk and kick out a dent. Learned about tire blow-outs.

1996 Volvo 740. Automatic transmission, but shifted hard enough to scratch 2nd gear. Learned to do a timing belt. Re-learned seller's remorse.

1985 Chevy pickup. Learned to tune a Quadrajet.

1994 GMC pickup. Learned about battery corrosion.

1979 Porsche 924. Rescued from a junk yard. Learned about spending more than a car's worth on repairing it. Learned to paint. Learned to weld. Learned to bondo. Learned brakes. Learned suspension. Learned electrics.

1994 Miata ARRRGH package. Learned to drive on a racetrack (only once). Learned to rebuild/replace/re-gear diffs. Re-learned seller's remorse.

2005 F-150. Learned what reliable really means (It's OK to be surprised).

1994 Altima (married it). Learned that my wife can always find a place to hide a candy wrapper.

1966 Toyota Land Cruiser. Learned about Rust. Learned more welding. Learned panel fabricating. Re-learning that thing about spending more on a vehicle than it is worth. Learned how to search for discontinued parts. Learned how to make parts from another vehicle work. Learned new cuss words. Learned new first-aid techniques. Learned the importance of eye and ear protection. Learned about rust.

2001 Suzuki SV650. Learned to ride a motorcycle. Learned to do a wheelie.

2006 Suzuki GSX-R600. Learned how to slide across the road on my butt. Learned that the world looks like a cartoon above a certain speed. Learned to slow down.
    1994 R-package - gone, but not forgotten.
1966 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Restification in progress. or should I say De-RUSTification in progress?
    1984 Honda VF1100S. V4 Fury!

1986.5 Toyota Supra Naturally aspirated, automatic, and the most unreliable car I've had. I would break down almost every time I went to the mall... everything from electrical problems to transmission problems. The transmission would accelerate through 1st just fine, then jump straight to overdrive... wtf? I never could race anybody... 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Turbo, targa top, 5spd, and FUN. Came to me with a custom exhaust already installed; I modded it out pretty nicely and am guessing I was running about 300hp when I finished (conservatively). Took it on cruises and to car gatherings... I loved that car. Significantly more reliable than the previous one, too Sold it to a numbnuts kid who promptly blew the engine then blamed me for it, and then got royally owned on Supraforums for it

1995 Acura Integra A friend of mine who flies for Continental Express sold me this for a steal.. his wife was the driver and she drives pretty much like a granny. It had about 135k when I bought it and still ran like it was new. Sold it to my brother.

1992 Mazda Miata Yes, this is my baby... you know the story of this one (I became a member here right before I bought it), Wrecked it, fixed it, repainted, and now she's my weekend and autocross car. Nothing like a convertible

1995 Acura Integra Bought it back from my brother recently for a daily driver and airplane carrier... needs a brake job, but I haven't had the extra money to run it up to Rogue yet

Not an impressive list, but I'm working on it. A new daily driver will probably be next on the list, then an Elise

Randy, I'm about to turn 45 and I just bought my 260th car, a 1973 Standard Beetle. For a while in my 30s I was restoring vintage VWs and Porsche 356s and I'd buy five cars just to get the best parts off each one, usually part out the worse one, sell the three runner ups, and have fun with the best one.

From memory, these are the ones that actually ended up being drivers.

It all started with a 1971 Datsun 240Z
    Then a rare 4x4 '54 Ford truck
1978 Dodge Van, to tow the Z, now converted to a racecar
    1970 Datsun 510
    1976 Fiat Spider
1989 Merkur XR4ti (Ford Sierra, bought new)
1976 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 (beat to hell)
    1981 Corvette (worst car EVER!)
    1984 Mercury Capri (Fox body)
1967 VW Bus, Standard Microbus, went to South America in it
    1973 Fiat X1/9
    1966 VW Bus, Panel
    1984 VW GTi (Rabbit)
    1989 VW Jetta (Mk2)
    1953 Chevy Truck

1999 Chevy Camaro V6, track prepped
    1964 Beetle from original owner
    1951 Chevy Coupe

1984 GTi (same car, bought it back)
    1955 Porsche Continental
