    Default Translation Please! (E-Mail Issues)

Remote host said: 554 Service unavailable; Client host [216.173.237.164] blocked using bl.spamcop.net; Blocked - see http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?216.173.237.164
    Giving up on 166.82.91.147.
What does this mean, can someone put it in simple terms for me please! We seem to be running across this type error more and more for some unknown reason.

    TIA

The mail server at 166.82.91.147 uses SpamCop to check and ensure messages are not spam before accepting them. It refused the connection from 216.173.237.164 (SBC mail server) because it has been reported as a producer of spam. All messages from this mail server will not be accepted until the record is removed from SpamCop's database.

This is not an uncommon issue from using hosted email solutions from companies like SBC. Many times the larger mail hosts are not as secure or are abused by other clients and all messages from them get blocked. Some clients like to setup their own outbound mail server to keep this from causing them issues.

It can also be due to the mail server at 166.82.91.147 is not using a updating its SpamCop database and so has stale information to compare its spam records to.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail26a.sbc-webhosting.com. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
Am I the only one having these issues? It's enought to piss off the pope!

It's your provider I guess... I use citymax.com and have never had a problem.

What was the error message that was attached to the response?

It could be that there's a DNS issue or an internet routing issue that hampered the delivery. If it was simply refused then it could be a receiving server problem, a mailbox problem (receiver inbox full) or you have a problem with being in some SPAM database. In any case, it should have some type of message that further explains the problem.

Also, I looked up your domain in the blacklists and although it wasn't listed, it did say this:

(Including a suggestion that they register with abuse.net, by emailing [email protected] might be a good idea too)
Now this does NOT mean you are in an abuse list... it's just a database of contacts to make it easier to report abuse to...
