Default Track time at MSR (currently miata only)

    From Merv Stauffer,

OK, here's the deal: Thursday, April 8th is ours at MSR. Jack gave us a break on the track rental 'since he couldn't fit us in on a
weekend. He is also going to join us in his SM. I have to check on
insurance, then I will let you know the cost. As I said before, this
is going to be a simple, "no frills" event. The more participants,
the less it will cost. Two groups, so tell me where you think you
fit. Maximum entries is fifty. I estimate $70 at that number, for
eight 25 minute sessions. We have plenty of experienced drivers,
that I'm sure will be more than happy to instruct, if needed. As of
now, it is "Miatas only". If we don't get enough to keep the price
reasonable, then we'll decide how to handle it, and if someone
is "between Miatas", I'm sure we can work something out.........
Since I have chosen to NOT be part of the Lone Star Miata Club, maybe
someone will volunteer to let them know about this, as well as other
clubs and the Dark Side crazies.
    Administrative edit:

Our contanct for this event is Merv Stauffer (MadMerv) his email is [email protected] please contact him if you would like to sign up for this event. Post below to let us know you'll be attending, too, but understand that sign-up requests should be sent directly to Merv.

I'm very interested! I had voted on the other board that I was willing to attend even if it was during the week! Sounds like fun!

For those of you who have never gotten to play at MSR this is a darn good deal!

Thanks for the Information BigDmiata! :afro:

PS. How is you little one doing? Congrats Again!

MSR is Motorsport Ranch, a 1.7 mile, 11 turn road course located SW of Fort Worth in Cresson, TX. It is owned, managed, operated and ruled by a great guy who has built a fantastic, safe facility.

SM, if you're curious, would be Spec Miata. A beast, usually red, built on an M1 using series specified replacement parts designed for durability, etc., in road racing.

8 25 minute sessions means you'll need an appointment with your chiropractor on Friday to get the crick out of your neck from looking waaay ahead through Big Bend (the fastest turn on the circuit), and a massage to work the soreness out of your right leg from holding the go pedal down. You may also need a roll of paper towels handy to wipe the silly grin off your face.

It's a great experience to run your Miata flat out in 25 minute spurts. The track has plenty of safe run-off area. You'll need freshly changed brake fluid (which you have), good working brakes (which I think we did as well) and a helmet. If you don't have a full, proper roll bar (4 points on the frame, etc.), you'll probably need to figure out how to fit with the top up.

I understand your position on this event Iain, but this looks to be the best bang for the buck event at MSR in a long while. Wish you would go out there and join us. (putting all other issues aside)

I agree, it sounds like a lot of track time for the price - best deal I've seen in a long time.

Actually, BigD, those "other issues" have nothing to do with my decision. After what happened back in October (which will not be discussed in public, thank you - ask me in person some time and I'll tell you about it for those who don't know), my wife and I agreed that there would be no open track with the Miata as long as it was my daily driver. The chances of something happening are one-in-a-million... but I've got just that kind of luck, ya know?

I'm not exactly thrilled about it, but I've agreed to it, and it's the responsible thing to do. So anyway, I won't be doing any more open track events until this time next year, when I'll be a BSME holder and hopefully gainfully employed, which will allow me to buy another daily driver and retire the Miata to strictly autox/track usage.

If Merv needs additional instructors for that day I'd be more than willing to come out and volunteer, but that's a different story.

Well actually less than 49, I already contacted Merv!

I was just giving you a hard time... However, since there's no green paint on your left rear fender, I think it all worked out just fine!
