    Default Broke Half Shaft

At the autocross Sunday I broke the right side half shaft at the spline where the C-clip is located.

Since this is a "mod" car I can't say what model Miata I have. I was told it was a 99' Torsen but from the pictures I have seen in the Miata parts book it has been modified or is not a 99'.

I hope you can help identifie what shaft I need in order to fix this.

What I think I have. You can correct me if I am wrong. (please)
1.8 Torsen Type 1. The wheel Hub stamp says NAR2.

As you can see from the linked pictures I have a flange, (cross centers 110mm) that connects to the diff. I think a true 99' shaft plugs directly into the diff.

Thanks Titus. That link is much better than the one I found earlier today.

Is there a PDF file of the 94'-95' microfiche to look up part numbers. The one I have for the 99' does not apply. I don't think my Mazdacomp is up to date.

There is a blurb on the following link about the 1/2 shafts.

There is also place in Hurst that rebuilds halfshafts and does custom driveline work, they may be able to help ya.

Thanks for the tip. Mazda Comp is proud of their part. $213. I will check local today to see what is out there now that I know what part to get.

At the autocross Sunday I broke the right side half shaft at the spline where the C-clip is located.

I'm really confused! The half shaft that you show, bolts to a stub axle. The C-clip is on the stub axle, so what does this have to do with the half shaft? Are you saying the spline that mates to the hub broke? Again, no C-clip on that end, only the big ol' nut on the outside. What am I missing???????

Yes, the spline that mates to the hub broke. There is a grove with a wire C-ring in the middle of that spline. It broke where the spline is cut for the C-ring. Looking at the shaft1.jpg image the small end. There should be a 1 extra inch on the end of that shaft. It slips into the bearing and the C-ring should keep it from pulling out in full droop. The broken part is now inside the hub.
