Thread: Track seat for the Mmmmiata

Default Track seat for the Mmmmiata

It's time to consider a track-use seat for the Miata, since I fail the broomstick test miserably. (See my Hallett pics.)
Mike P. gave me an old '99 seat that had a foamectomy done, and it's lowered me down a good inch. But I could use another inch of drop.

Ideally, I want a seat that I can easily swap in and out before heading to the track. Could be a fixed mount (no sliders) as long as access to the bolts is easy enough. I think most seats with sliders will not give me the required drop...

Many of you gents have already done this. Any suggestions? Got pics?

Hey Speed. Next time we're both around Gary's, you need to sit in my corbeau seat and see if it would work. I've got the miata specific seat bracket. It is very easy to remove/install quickly. It's fairly worn out at the base, so it sits lower.

No pics yet as I'll put the seat in when the cage goes in... but you can get some nice thick aluminum seat mounts from www.okmiata.com

I picked up one to put my seat in the 90 racer.

It's $115 so it's not TCB approved, but it is designed to keep your seat in place while rolling around the track unexpectedly.

    Go with the homebrew solution...

Sparco Sprint was ~$200. Cost of parts to make the bracket was ~$30, iirc. The seat lowered me about 3" over a stock, unshaved seat. FWIW, I'm 5'11" with a 30" inseam (short, stubby Scottish legs, so I sit high in the car).

The seat was easy to remove and install, but I would encourage you to use some anti-seize on the seat mounting bolts. Don't ask me how I know this. Also, this method probably won't work if you like to sit waaaay stretched out. I tend to sit pretty close to the wheel, and I could get to the rear mounting bolts. Drivers who sit further back may not be able to do the same.
