That really doesn't make a difference. Specialty lisence plates do not follow the original date of your current plate. They prorate the taxes on the new plate off of the old plates.
I have specialty plates on both of my vehicles.

I have my call sign on both my Odyssey and my Escort. Drives the inspection station crazy. I thought about putting my call on the Miata also, but changed my mind. Three dollars a year for specialty plates is more than I can afford.
